There’s something wonderful and terrible about finishing what you’re sure will be your favourite book of 2014 on January 2nd. That’s when I finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.
It’s wonderfully Dickensian, and I loved it from the first page. I had to force myself to put it down now and then so that I wouldn’t finish it too quickly. It’s hard not to feel that an ~800 page book ought to last longer than two days.
Read it!

This happened to me last year with Kate Atkinson's LIFE AFTER LIFE. I think it was March when I read it and knew it was my favorite for 2013. Guess what I just started reading?
The Goldfinch? :)
I guess we should just be happy to have found books we really love so early in the reading year! I actually really wanted to read Life After Life next (I bought it when it came out but somehow never started it), but I can't find my copy. So I'm reading Donna Tartt's The Little Friend now instead.
